The Institute

The Sächsische Institut für die Druckindustrie was founded in 1990 as Polygraph contacta and carries the name SID since 1993. The institute is a non-profit industry-oriented research institution whose role is the support and further development of the printing industry in the broadest sense. From the very beginning, there are three fields of activity at the center of our work: We are a research and development partner to the graphic arts industry and its associated machine manufacturing industry, service provider for the graphic arts and processing industry and competence centre for technology transfer within the branch.

Most of our research assignments are orders from small and medium-sized companies which we support with our profound know-how. Subsidized by Federal Ministries and Federal States we are also engaged in market-related industrial research with the aim to develop new, trendsetting technologies and products for the printing industry. Furthermore we are involved in projects of industrial co-operative research, which are often processed together with other research centers at universities, colleges and institutes.

Whether for processing technologies or graphic arts machine manufacturing: We are constantly searching for innovative and pioneering solutions in all of our fields of activity.

Having a presence in research committees and associations is absolutely necessary to have success in research. In this way, it is able to bring together what belongs together: partners who wish to set the course for the future of the industry. SID takes this task very seriously. That is why we work hand-in-hand with large machine manufacturers as well as small and medium-sized companies.

We also cooperate with well-known institutions and engage in different associations and networks.

Together with our accredited test laboratory for print quality and post press, as well as the measurement technology laboratory, SID is extremely well prepared for the challenges of today and tomorrow.

The close affinity of SID with the machine manufacturing and printing industries has a long-standing tradition. This is the reason why we also offer individual services in the fields of measurement technology, consultation and certification alongside our research and development activities.

As an industry insider, we can support you with our expertise and with our wide range of services our test laboratories offer. Legally binding expert opinions from our publicly-appointed expert for printing processes, printing presses and printed products also belong to our list of services like technical inspections, which provide you with quality assurance when making new investments in new or second-hand machinery and equipment, repairs, maintenance and fault diagnosis. We also accompany you competently and reliably until the certification of your quality and environmental management system, during the preparation for FSC^® and PEFC^TMcertifications or for the implementation of Process Standard Offset Printing.
